“Life is short and precious and we never know what is around the corner. So you live for now, seize every moment that comes your way and if you’re going to look back on your life with regret, it’s easier to regret the things that you did do, rather than the things you didn’t.”
Hello my fellow readers. Hope you’re doing great. It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post, because the past few weeks were really hectic. And as you know, during Eid there’s a lot of family gatherings to go to. So, I didn’t really have the time to sit and write a book review. To be really honest, I was in a reading slump at the end of June, and I wanted to start a new book, but the books I have are really long and they’re not a light or fast paced reads. Therefore, I picked up Fairytale Beginnings by Holy Martin. From its cover, I could tell that it’s a cute fluffy read, which is exactly what I needed. Let’s review the book!
This book follows the story of Milly, an obsessed girl with everything Disney. Also, she happens to be a smart dendrochronologist, who works for a Heritage Company. This company basically deals with old properties or huge mansions, and they estimate their value, and they get to decide whether to renovate those old properties or not. When the company sends her to discover the origins of Cameron’s father’s huge castle, she immediately falls in love with its architecture, because it reminded her of the castles in the old Disney movies she used to watch. As a result of that, she refuses to leave until she inspects the whole castle in details. But, when Milly and Cameron discover creepy and interesting things about the castle each day, they can’t ignore the chemistry between them. However, they both have a terrible past of love relationships. So, will they have their happily ever after?
I loved the imagery elements in this book. The writing style is so descriptive, and it makes you really imagine how the castle looks like. The premise of the book is kind of similar to a Disney story, which makes the book more magical. I loved how Milly seemed so cute, and spontaneous. But, she’s also an intelligent female character, who is passionate about history and historic details. I love smart and passionate fictional female characters in books. Because, they are a perfect example to embrace who you are, and to never feel embarrassed about what you’re passionate about. However, even though the end was predictable, there were a lot of twists, and several stories behind the castle, which was really fun and interesting. There’s also some ghosts in this book, but don’t be afraid, they’re not that scary. I honestly recommend this adorable romantic book. Such a light hearted read, if you want to take a break from long and heavy books, then that’s the one for you.
